Journey Towards A new Beginning

I am back again with more stories about my colleges and my life here till now. As if have already introduced my college infrastructures in my last blog so in this, I will focus on the lifestyle in the campus. Being a pioneer university in Taiwan also comes with a lot of responsibility. So we kind of has a very tough regime here for course works and research. Here each semester job fair is held and many companies come and take students from different field and research background. As I already mentioned this university is surrounded by 3 science parks so, it’s obvious that the average pay scale here is also higher than rest of the cities in Taiwan. Now is the summer break time, a lot of companies offers internships to students in the summertime, Students get to learn a lot there and get paid for their tenure in that company. It is very important for international students as they get some financial aid for their survival in Taiwan during these internships and also get the opportunities to continue their work in that company after their graduation. But it’s not all that boring, during summer time we have so many summer camps from college and international student associations. It really funs getting to see the real beauty of Taiwan and its flora and fauna. A lot of activities also in college, in summer camp students from different colleges come and stay here for few days and take part in several activities. We also enjoy the night market on our campus sometimes and enjoy the singing shows Also a lot of festivals to enjoy dragon boat festival, and also people from different country celebrate their festivals with there international mates here.

NCTU Incoming Exchange Program provides students from our partner schools a chance to explore overseas study experience and Asian lifestyle. Located in Hsinchu, the silicon valley of Taiwan, NCTU has produced over 60% CEOs in Hsinchu Science Park and serves to be the cradle for future engineers and professional managers.

Now talking about accommodation, here getting a room in campus is better first of all its cheap, its inside campus so you don’t have to think for transportation much, u can avail all the facilities inside campus easily and the main thing is you get very high-speed internet. Internet speed inside NCTU campus is highest in Taiwan. Inside campus, you won’t get a single bedroom all are 4 bed shared room especially for the master, for Ph.D. and some who had a family with them there is graduate dorm 1 where they can find single rooms but it’s limited. So if someone wants to stay single or have more lavish facilities then they can now apply for dorm 13, its newly constructed dorm, for family, double shared, single, with all the facilities of cooking, washing and all but the cost is also more, and also if someone wants to stay outside the campus then Off-campus housing is also an option that exchange students may choose. However, students who wish to live off-campus are responsible for securing their own housing. Residences located off-campus are owned and operated by private individuals or companies, and OIA is unable to make any arrangements on behalf of the students. Safety and the availability of public transportation should be taken into consideration when evaluating possible off-campus accommodations.

Now Regarding healthcare facilities, the medical clinic is located in the OIA building on Kuang-Fu campus. The clinical staffs are prepared to handle medical emergencies in addition to rendering general outpatient medical services to students, professors, and other university employees. Medical treatment for students is free of charge. Off-Campus Clinics are also there, but there are quite expensive, when the on-campus clinic is unavailable, off-campus private clinics are conveniently accessible in the neighborhood around NTHU like Mackay.
At NCTU In order to provide a friendly learning environment to international students, each year host families events is organized for international students, to establish a sustainable national host family system by combining the resources of domestic schools and communities. Guest stay for international students in colleges or universities will be shorter, since they are independent and busy with classes.  All activities are planned during weekends or on holidays, like Chinese Lunar New Year, Lantern Festival, Tomb Sweeping Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Moon Festival, and so on.  Host families will invite the student to home or go somewhere else to experience the different customs.

While promoting the homestay program, the language will be a major deterrent for host families.  This plan will combine Local student-buddies and short-term homestay to solve this problem.  Local student-buddies will act as a bridge to help host families and international students eliminate the language gap between them. This will help the participation of the host family to be more as well as help the international students to adapt better.
The kind of diversity in terms of nationality, ethnicity, culture, and discipline we get at NCTU is the greatest assets. As a student who will work in globalized settings, make the most of the multicultural environment at NCTU and in a multicultural country. Why wait till you graduate to discover what it means to live, work and thrive in such an environment when you can do this every day on NCTU campus, learning from students, professors and staff of diverse backgrounds, and learning to respect each other and to cooperate with each other to achieve common goals.

At NCTU, although we have International Students and Local Students, International faculty and Local faculty coming from many countries, we are all striving to become internationalized, with our perspectives enriched, and even challenged, by constant interaction with each other. Every day, we are learning and improving our “intercultural Differences”, which is so crucial in today’s world but far from the inclusive or harmonious world. University learning is not just about the passive transfer of knowledge from teacher to student; it’s about the active creation of new knowledge by respecting and questioning what has been achieved by those who have come before us. And this I can proudly say that NCTU excels in delivering and creating this environment and I am lucky to be a part of it.
